Holmgren building Browns dream team

Mike Holmgren may be the man in charge of the Cleveland Browns, but he is smart enough to know that he cannot do it alone. First he gave, Head Coach Eric Mangini another year to prove his worth, and after winning the final four games of the season maybe Mangini’s way is beginning to work. Now it looks as if Holmgren is going to assemble a pro personnel dream team, instead of being vain and trying to do it all himself. It looks like current Philadelphia Eagles GM Tom Heckert to be the next Browns GM, and to hire Seattle Seahawks Director of Pro Personnel Will Lewis for an unspecified job.

Heckert has been the Philadelphia Eagles GM since 2006, before that he was their director of pro personnel. While with the Eagles he has held the title of GM, but the final decision on Eagles personnel laid with Head Coach Andy Reid. Heckert was an advisor of sorts, and that partnership has done very well for that team. It seems that if he takes the job with the Browns he will be a part of a personnel panel, which should improve the Browns fate not only in the draft, but in free agency as well.

Lewis and Holmgren have a long history. He played for the Coach back in the Green Bay Packers days, and when he retired from playing was hired as a scout. Holmgren brought him to Seattle with him and he eventually rose to run that teams pro personnel department. It seems his rile with the team would be that of Chief Scout and advisor to Holmgren and Heckert.

What this means his the Browns will have one of the finest front offices in the league, and it will be their charge to rebuild a team that has been perpetually rebuilding since reentering the league in 1999.
