Carrie Fisher Was ‘Joking’ About ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Role

Carrie Fisher hasn’t been confirmed for the new Star Wars movie just yet.

The actress and author recently said she would reprise her role as Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars: Episode VII. Although fans were excited about the news, apparently Fisher was just joking about the announcement.

A representative for the actress said that nothing about her involvement with director J.J. Abrams’ sequel has been confirmed. The individual told CNN that Carrie Fisher was just kidding around when she confirmed her role in the film. Nothing about her role has been set in stone by Lucasfilm.

Although nothing official has been confirmed about the actress’ role in Star Wars: Episode VII, Fisher apparently has some ideas about the character’s progression since Return of the Jedi..

“Elderly,” Carrie Fisher joked. “She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

Details about the highly-anticipated sequel are few and far between at the moment. While casting details are non-existent, it has been confirmed that J.J. Abrams will direct the feature and screenwriter Michael Arndt will tackle scripting duties on the project.

Even Luke Skywalker himself isn’t sure who will be involved in Star Wars: Episode VII. Mark Hamill said that producers have been in touch with some of the original cast since the announcement.

“I’m assuming, because I haven’t talked to the writers, that these movies would be about our offspring — like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range, an influential character,” the actor explained.

Carrie Fisher may have been joking about returning to the Star Wars universe after so many years, but there’s still a chance she may ultimately sign on for Episode VII. However, J.J. Abrams’ penchant for secrecy may keep the specifics hidden away until the time is right.
