Minor Earthquake Rattles San Francisco Bay Area


A small earthquake rattled the San Francisco Bay area this morning (January 7 2010,) including the tech hub of Silicon Valley.

The 4.1 earthquake struck at 10:09 a.m. local time with an epicenter just to the east of the Calaveras Reseviour, 10 kms (6 miles) from Milpitas and 18 km (11 miles) ESE of Fremont.

With a relatively shallow depth of 11 km (6.8 miles), the quake was felt as far away as San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Stockton.

The quake was followed by a range of smaller aftershocks ranging from 1.5 to 2.2. There was no reports of any damage.
