A strange Emma Stone tweet has us wondering if life is imitating art on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Film stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are real-life boyfriend and girlfriend, but a recent tweet from the “Gwen Stacy” actress has us wondering if Garfield’s attentions have shifted to his new co-star, Shailene Woodley.
Woodley was brought on to play Mary Jane Watson, known in the comics as Spider-Man’s eventual romantic interest and wife after the death of Gwen Stacy. For the purposes of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Woodley’s Mary Jane is only in a handful of scenes, establishing her character and setting up an expanded role in the series after, presumably, Emma Stone’s character is killed off.
But are Andrew Garfield and Shailene Woodley growing too close for comfort in real life?
Perez Hilton notes that Emma Stone took to Twitter yesterday for “pretty much the first time ever,” to post a strange tweet that read: “nawder nad islasehne tsintgi ni a erte.”
Confusing? Yes. But it’s not some strange language that Stone tweeted in. Rather, “nawder nad islasehne tsintgi ni a erte” is an anagram, meaning that the words are in the right place, but the letters are mixed up. Unscrambled, the anagram reads: “Andrew and Shailene sitting in a tree.”
Now it could be that Emma Stone is just messing with us, possibly tweeting about a scene that the two were filming (Shailene has been spotted on set recently).
But Stone deleted the tweet quickly after posting it. Trouble in paradise, or byproduct of a standard superhero film gag order? Who knows? Maybe Emma Stone was hacked.
Still, if you look elsewhere, Stone and Garfield’s relationship seems to be intact. The two are immensely private, once holding up hand-written signs for paparazzi that pointed to the website of a charity that the two advocate.
Just Jared reports that the couple were spotted doing some shopping together on March 2 in New York City (this was just yesterday), and were seen kissing each other and grabbing a bite to eat together at Bubby’s Restaurant.
The night before, the two were shooting scenes together for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in Chinatown.
Stone recently talked a bit about her character in the film with the press, saying:
“I’m very happy that our first one was received so well, it’ll be cool in the next one to see how Gwen and Peter bridge that distance that was between us at the end of it. I think the way it all unfolds is pretty neat. And I hope they continue letting Gwen be heroic, I think they might.”
In any case, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently shooting for a planned May 2, 2014 release. The film’s cast includes returning stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Sally Field. Joining the cast are Jamie Foxx (Electro), Dane DeHaan (Harry Osborn), Shailene Woodley (Mary Jane Watson), Paul Giamatti (Rhino), Colm Feore (unspecified), Chris Cooper (Norman Osborn), and Felicity Jones (unspecified).
We’ll chalk up Emma Stone’s strange tweet to a playful Amazing Spider-Man 2 prank for the now, but we’ll definitely let you know if anything new comes out. But what do you think? Is there a real-life love triangle brewing here?
