Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Is Being Taught How To Surf By Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has revealed that his new band mate, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, has been teaching him to surf as the duo work on material for their group, Atoms For Peace.

Yorke, who also revealed that he enjoys to spend time on the beach, noted that his new hobby has also helped him in the studio. Talking to The Observer, Yorke stated, “I used always to try to force things, in the studio. But it’s like, you can sit out there on a board for ages waiting for the right wave to come along.”

The Radiohead frontman then added, “You can’t get angry about it. You know it will happen eventually and you start to understand the waiting itself might be part of it. Part of the fun.”

However, Yorke was quick to point out that he is still “pretty crap” at the sport. Yorke also confirmed that he has recently been working on new material in the past few months, but didn’t state whether it would be released as part of his solo work or if it would be released as part of Radiohead’s catalogue.

Yorke stated, “I’ve been working at home over the winter and everything I’ve been doing is dark as f***. But we did a lot of this (Atoms For Peace album, “Amok”) away in Los Aneles and it was sunnier. It was something to do in the afternoon and evening before you went out.”

Atoms for Peace were launched on Friday February 22, and they plan to play two European festivals this summer.
