Robert Downey Jr. Is The Highest Grossing Actor Of 2012

Robert Downey Jr. has been named the highest grossing actor of 2012.

The Avengers movie could have been a very confusing mess of a film, bringing Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) together for one movie. It was an ambitious project with what seemed at the time a director who was sure to make a mess of things – Joss Whedon – whose previous credits included the terrible Alien Resurrection and a popular TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The Avengers ended up being the third highest grossing film of all time.

However, with the unlikely success of such an event, the most popular of the actors in box office numbers turned out to be Robert Downey Jr., outshining possible competition from Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Evans.

According to Forbes, this was based on how much each actor’s films earned at the global box office in 2012. The box office credit is only being given for films each actor starred in. Robert Downey Jr. was clearly the star of The Avengers.

Twilight was another film with multiple stars, but Kristen Stewart was the big earner for her roles in Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 and Snow White and the Huntsmen. This broke her past costars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson.

Daniel Craig was among the top 5 with Skyfall, alongside Christian Bale for The Dark Knight Rises.

In the end, Robert Downey Jr. came out on top due to the tremendous success of The Avengers.
