‘World’s Worst Portrait Tattoo’ Gets Fixed For Free [Photo]

You’ve probably seen the picture before. A man holds up a picture of his late wife to a portrait tattoo of her face on his arm. The tattoo looks nothing like his beautiful bride, and the man is left with a horrible tribute to the woman he loved and lost.

The story behind the tattoo goes that a man lost his wife to a house fire less than three months after they were married. He was left to raise their three children by himself. Wanting to memorialize his wife in a portrait tattoo, he went to a local tattoo studio and ended up with ink that looked nothing his wife.

He went back to the studio a second time thinking “he had done something wrong in the healing of the tattoo,” but the end result was the same.

Enter Scott Versago, a tattoo artist at Empire Ink in Akron, Ohio.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when this guy walked in and showed me this project. I think my jaw literally hit the floor,” Versago said on his Facebook page. He goes on to retell the story before getting to the point where he was tasked to fix the “#1 worst portrait tattoo in the world.”

“Finally, he drove all the way to my studio, Empire Ink, just to meet me and to see what his options were,” Versago said. “Touched by his story, I gifted the entire project to him for free. Now he has closure and I have an amazing story to add to my portfolio!
