Former NBA Star Stephon Marbury Owes Personal Chef $300K in ‘Hush Money’

For Stephon Marbury, the former NBA point guard, things got hot and heavy in the kitchen — and it’s costing him.

Marbury, though married, hooked up with his personal chef Thurayyah Mitchell five times as The Inquisitrpreviously reported. What’s more, Marbury offered Mitchell nearly a million bucks to keep quiet about the affair. The hush money was to keep the New York Knicks, Marbury’s team at the time, and his wife, in the dark about what happened.

Mitchell apparently claimed she was a victim of sexual harassment when Marbury fired her in 2006 at around the same time the Knicks as an organization was hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit by one of the company’s executives.

Marbury paid Mitchell about $600,000 as part of the deal to keep the extramarital affair under wraps, before cutting off the payments in 2010. Mitchell went to arbitration and subsequently to court to enforce their agreement.

According to the New York Post‘s reporting on the arbitration decision, things got very personal with the personal chef: “Mitchell said the star made her believe that ‘keeping him happy’ was a requirement of keeping her job, the ruling said.”

TMZ reports that Mitchell prevailed in court: “on Feb. 1 the judge sided with Mitchell — and ordered Marbury to pony up the remaining $331,584.50 he owes… plus interest.” Marbury unsuccessfully claimed that Mitchell violated the confidentiality agreement, and therefore forfeited her right to the rest of the cash, by going to court.

Marbury won a championship with the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association in 2012 and is reportedly joining the cast of Basketball Wives on VH1.
