Kate Middleton’s Uncle: More Embarrassment For Royal Couple
Kate Middleton may be blushing again after an extensive report by Paul Scott for the UK-based Daily Mail. According to Scott, her normally flamboyant uncle Gary Goldsmith has quietly married Julie-Ann Brown, 43, who pleaded guilty to embezzling £275,000 from her employer in 1996.
It has been an up-and-down few months for the Duchess of Cambridge, who announced last December that she is expecting a baby in July. Prince William and Kate Middleton were recently voted 2013’s most inspiring romantic couple.
There have also been several photo scandals including a lawsuit sparked when French magazine Closer published topless photos of the Duchess sunbathing in what she thought was a secluded location.
Carole Middleton, the 58-year-old mother of the Duchess, is 47-year-old Goldsmith’s older sister. “The wedding was a very quiet affair. Carole and Kate were not there. There were just four very close, dear friends,” Goldsmith confessed to Scott.
Goldsmith has been on the outs with the royal couple for some time ever since he was caught on tape using cocaine. As an ABC News report by Simone Swink noted, he was once considered the biggest embarrassment attached to the royal family.
However, that honor passed to Prince Andrew, an uncle on Prince William’s side, and Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, when it was revealed that Fergie had accepted loans from billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was convicted of sex offenses involving underage prostitutes in 2008.
After claims that he’d cleaned up his act, Goldsmith was ultimately included in the guest list. Recently divorced from his third wife and not yet married to Julie-Ann, he chose to attend with his second wife, Luan, and his daughter, Tallulah.
Despite the coveted invitation to one of the world’s highest profile weddings, Goldsmith may have given Kate Middleton another reason to avoid her colorful uncle. In addition to marrying a convicted embezzler, he has just announced plans to write a tell-all book.
