Danny Boyle’s New Trailer For ‘Trance’ Looks Disturbing

Danny Boyle is no stranger to directing experimental films. In his newest release Trance, he takes James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson through a cryptic ride.

As described in its official synopsis released by Fox Searchlight:

“James McAvoy stars as a fine art auctioneer who has teamed up with a criminal gang to steal a Goya painting worth millions. However, after suffering a blow to the head during the heist, he has no recollection of where he hid it. The gang’s leader hires a hypnotherapist (Rosario Dawson) to bring the truth to light, delving deep into Simon’s subconscious where reality is blurred with fiction and deceit.”

In the redband trailer Rosario Dawson acts as the voice over, as she hypnotizes James McAvoy as a colorful scheme of abstract images speed through his memory. It looks like a free falling dream, and then like many of Danny Boyle’s films, turns into a horrific stylistic experiment of the mind. Somewhere between dreams and reality, James McAvoy is seen wielding a gun, being chased by the demons in and outside of his mind.

Trance star, Rosario Dawson, who is currently dating Danny Boyle, said of her relationship with Boyle:

“It was after we wrapped. It’s interesting. I think from the outside it looks like there’s a lot of dissimularities. I actually met him on a film before, and I remember really loving meeting him. He’s a brilliant human being. I think we just really appreciate each other.”
