Penelope Cruz is pregnant again and is expecting her second child with husband Javier Bardem.
Earlier this month, it was rumored that the 38-year-old actress and her Skyfall star husband were expecting another addition to their family. Cruz herself confirmed the news to the Spanish TV station TVE!
The Oscar-winning actress said that she’s “tremendously happy and excited” about her second child with 43-year-old Bardem, reports Just Jared. Her rep also confirmed the news to Us Weekly.
Cruz’s pregnancy will prevent her from attending the February 17 Goya Awards in Madrid. The new baby will join big brother, Leo, 2. Cruz and Bardem married in 2010 at a friend’s home in the Bahamas.
On motherhood, Cruz told Vogue back in June 2011 that it is “a revolutionary experience. That’s the best way I can describe it . . . when you see that face, you are transformed forever.”
Alongside Leo, the couple’s new baby will also have a cousin. Cruz’s younger sister, Monica Cruz, announced earlier in January that she is expecting her first child via an anonymous sperm donor.
On the career front, Cruz will next be seen in the Ridley Scott thriller The Counselor, set to be released on November 15, 2013. The film boasts an all-star cast including Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, and Cruz’s husband, Bardem.
Aside from his critically-acclaimed portrayal of villain Raoul Silva in Skyfall, Bardem was last seen in the Terrence Malick art film To the Wonder which premiered on September 2, 2012. It will be picked up by Magnolia Pictures and distributed in theaters in April of 2013.
