Rob Ryan A Saint, Tells Friends He Has The Job
Rob Ryan is a Saint. That’s what the former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator is telling friends at least.
It was previously reported that the New Orleans Saints wanted to interview more candidates for the vacant defensive coordinator position. If Ryan is correct, the interview process is over.
The Saint’s finished last season 7-9 without suspended head coach Sean Payton. The team used two interim head coaches, along with new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Scoring was no problem for the team, but a better defense might have helped the Saints make the playoffs.
Payton, freshly re-instated by the NFL, wasted no time firing Spagnuolo. Now he is wasting no time finding a replacement.
NFL Network’s Marc Sessler reports that Ryan is Payton’s number one choice at defensive coordinator. He says the sooner the Saints can sign Ryan, the better.
According to Ian Rapoport, Rob Ryan is already telling friends he has the job. The NFL Network analyst tweeted that Ryan has told at least one person so far.
Todd Grantham, another candidate for the job, announced Friday that he has withdrawn his name. The Saints interviewed him on Tuesday, before calling Ryan back for another interview.
If hired this would be Ryan’s fourth time being a defensive coordinator. Before the Cowboys, he held the same position with the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders.
