Ricki Lake Show Canceled After Less Than Six Months On Air

The Ricki Lake Show has been canceled after less than half a year on the air, the victim of what television insiders said was poor ratings.

The show went on the air in the fall of 2012, representing Ricki Lake’s return to television after eight years. Her first talk show went on the air in 1993 and stayed on for 11 seasons before being axed in 2004.

I left my first talk show in 2004, but it feels like an eternity because my life has changed gears so many times,” she told TV Guide back in September. “My kids were 6 and 2 at the time. Now they’re 15 and 11. I moved from New York to L.A. I got divorced. I got married. I’ve gained and lost a thousand pounds — no exaggeration.”

The 43-year-old Lake said she was nervous about her return to television, even though she had spent more than a decade on the air.

This time, The Ricki Lake Show was canceled much quicker. The show wasn’t able to pull in a big enough audience, Hollywood.com reported.

Ricki Lake released a statement on her show being canceled, saying that she hopes to continue some of her interests in some other areas:

“I am so proud of the shows we completed this season, sparking important conversations about everything from raising children to mental illness to suicide prevention to coming out.

“I will continue to be an active and passionate voice for subjects that are close to my heart through a variety of platforms.”

The Ricki Lake Show was canceled in part because of the fierce competition for talk shows on daytime television, the Los Angeles Times noted. She competed with shows from Jeff Probst, Katie Couric, and Steve Harvey.
