Justin Timberlake Denies Calling Out Britney Spears At Pre-Super Bowl Event

Justin Timberlake is denying rumors that he slammed Britney Spears during a pre-Super Bowl event Saturday.

Timberlake came under fire shortly after he performed “Cry Me a River,” which he prefaced with, “Sometimes in life, you think you found the one. But then one day you find out that she is just some b***h!” The song has long since been thought to be about his split from his fellow Mickey Mouse Club co-star.

In 2002, there were rumors that Spears cheated on Timberlake with choreographer Wade Robson, but neither party has ever commented on the allegations. The couple had been dating for three years before they broke up. Timberlake has since married actress Jessica Biel, while Spears recently split from fiancé Jason Trawick. The two began dating in 2009, and Trawick acted like a second father to Spears’ two songs, 7-year-old Preston and 6-year-old Jayden. Trawick has said he still plans to be in the boys’ lives.

Outraged Spears fans assumed Timberlake was referring to the pop singer when he introduced the hit song from his debut album, Justified. “Cry Me a River” won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2004, and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video features Timberlake spying on his ex-girlfriend and plotting revenge against her and her lover with help from Timbaland.

Timberlake shut down chatter that he called out his ex-girlfriend on Twitter, writing:

Timberlake’s pre-Super Bowl performance marked his first live concert in five years.
