Randy Travis Pleads Guilty To DUI


Randy Travis pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and will receive probation and pay a fine. The award-winning country music singer was arrested after driving naked and crashing his Trans Am last summer.

During a Thursday court hearing, Travis received a 180-day suspended jail sentence. Randy Travis will received 24 months of probation, ABC News reports. The singer will also pay a $2,000 fine. The “Forever And Ever Amen” singer was also ordered to spend a minimum of 30 days in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.

Travis, 53, will also be subjected to an ignition interlock device on his vehicle throughout his probation. The Texas court also ordered the country music star to complete 100 hours of community service. Randy Travis was arrested for DUI Sherman, a North Texas town, the Huffington Post notes.

The DUI misdemeanor charges carried a possible penalty of up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine. When Travis walked out of the Texas courthroom, he was met by a group of fans and supporters. He told the crowd that he was glad to have the DUI case behind him.

The country crooner was also facing a charge for reportedly threatening the arresting officers, but the plea bargain included dropping the complaint.

When police officers arrived at the accident scene last summer, they reportedly encountered a nude and “combative” Randy Travis. The singer’s had a blood alcohol level of more than .15, the legal limit is .08.

The country star had a series of legal run-ins prior to the DUI charge. Travis’ attorney noted the singer’s respect for police officers and notes the singer has now stopped drinking.
