Dog Scheduled To Be Put To Sleep For Being ‘Gay’

A so-called gay dog may be euthanized this afternoon unless someone intervenes and adopts him out.

The dog, whose owner somehow concluded that the pooch was gay, is scheduled to be put down today in Tennessee.

Believe it or not, the owner surrendered the American Bulldog mix because “the dog was seen ‘hunched over,’ another male dog, therefore, in this owner’s mind, the dog must be gay,” the Examiner reports. The dog is currently in a Jackson, Tennessee, animal shelter.

The Examiner explains how the owner apparently jumped to some weird conclusions:

“The former owner apparently does not know that ‘hunched over, aka humping behavior’ is typically a sign of dominance in dogs, rather than something to signify a dog’s sexual orientation.

“But, on the other hand, even if it did indicate sexual orientation, does it warrant turning one’s dog over to an extremely crowded, sadly ‘high kill,’ animal control facility?”

According to Gawker, a regular visitor to the Jackson shelter wrote the following:

“Don’t let this gorgeous dog die [because] his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He’s in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!”

The dog is scheduled to be put to sleep today at 1 pm, although one Facebook user claims she will rescue him before he is scheduled to meet his maker:

“I am adopting this big boy first thing in the morning … He will be neutered/ htwm tested/ and vetted. He will be temperament tested and then place[d] in a rescue verified and approved home.”
