20,000 Pizzas Sent To Troops For Super Bowl

Pizzas 4 Patriots is working to send more than 20,000 pizzas to troops overseas this week for the Super Bowl.

Pizzas 4 Patriots, a non-profit group, and DHL Express are working together to send 21,000 pizzas to U.S. servicemen and servicewomen who are currently serving overseas. The pizzas will be sent via DHL cargo jets to military basses across Afghanistan and Kuwait on January 29.

Mark Evans, the founder of Pizzas 4 Patriots and a retired Master Sergeant, said:

“Since 2008, we have had the pleasure of providing our brave U.S. servicemen and women overseas with the most delicious, authentic ‘slices of home’, letting them know we care and we are thinking of them. While our soldiers’ presence in the Middle East continues to become smaller, they still need to know that we appreciate the sacrifices they make for us, our families and our country.”

The pizzas are being made by Great Kitchens in Illinois. Governor Pat Quinn will hold a ceremony on Tuesday morning before the 20,000 pizzas are sent to the troops for the Super Bowl.

Quinn said:

“While we can never do enough to honor the many sacrifices our men and women in uniform make, we should make every effort to show our appreciation … I want to thank DHL Express and Pizzas 4 Patriots for their extraordinary effort in giving our troops the chance to enjoy the game with the food they grew up with.”

Once the pizzas are in the middle east, DHL Express will work with the military to distribute the pizzas to various bases.

Ian Clough, CEO of DHL Express U.S., said:

“We are honored to leverage our global network, so U.S. troops can enjoy a taste of home this Super Bowl Sunday. We are fortunate to have an experienced, committed staff that truly understands the intricacies of international shipping. While DHL Express handles urgent shipments like this across borders every day, I know our teams are working extra hard to ensure the pizzas arrive fresh and in excellent condition.”

Pizzs 4 Patriots has been working since 2008 to send slices of pizza to troops overseas. The group sends pizzas for major US celebrations like Indepenedance Day, Veterans Day, and of course, the Super Bowl. To date, the group has sent more than 120,000 pizzas to American troops.
