Judge Rules, Deadbeat Dad Cannot Have Any More Children [Video]

A judge in Elyria, Ohio has ruled that a deadbeat dad cannot have any more children. Judge Walther handed down his decision after Asim Taylor plead guilty for nonpayment of child-support.

Judge Walther offered that the order would be lifted when and if Taylor catches up on the support he owes and continues making regular payments. Walther contends that the defendant needs to take care of the children he already has fathered. As reported by The Chronicle, the judge explained his ruling to Taylor:

“I put this condition on for one reason and one reason alone. It’s your personal responsibility to pay for these kids.”

Taylor is currently the father of four children and owes nearly $100,000 in back child support. He will be on probation for the next five years.

Doug Merrill, Taylor’s attorney, thinks the judge’s decision is a violation of his client’s rights. As reported by timesreporter.com, Merrill plans to file an appeal:

“The only way he can ensure not impregnating a woman is not to have sex and I don’t believe the court has the ability to do that.”

The appeal will be based on a similar case from Medina, Ohio in 2004. The Appeals court decided in that case that the wording of the order was to broad. The case in Medina did not allow for lifting the order once the defendant caught up on his child support payments.

In this case, the judge was clear that the defendant cannot have any more children until he he is able to pay the child support that he owes his existing children. If Taylor meets that requirement, the judge has stated that he will lift the order.
