‘Spring Breakers’ Contra-Disney Trailer Drops, With James Franco As A Gangster Rapper

A few months ago we reported on Harmony Korine’s new pop commentary film Spring Breakers. The film after premiering at Venice Film Festival had huge buzz for James Franco as a Gucci Mane-type character and Disney’s finest including Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez as impressionable 20-somethings.

It looks like the moment you’ve all been waiting for has arrived. The Kids director Harmony Korine has decided to drop the trailer for Spring Breakers, a film, which going from Korine’s body of work, was sure to be interesting, if not intriguing.

The Spring Breakers trailer shows a bit what we expected from seeing initial stills from the film. The Disney girls are seen going against the grain of their image from frame one — scantily clad, illegal activity, and gyrating hips in the midst of giggles. This film clearly won’t be for Vanessa Hudgens Disney crew. Then James Franco, who’s said to be a scene stealer appears, covered with tattoos, a full mouth grill, and a rapping swagger. That’s right, James Franco has swagger. Who would have thought?

Spring Breakers synopsis describes the film as the following:

“Spring Breakers tells the story of four sexy college girls as they plan to fund their spring break getaway by burglarizing a fast food shack. But that’s only the beginning… At a motel room rager, fun reaches its legal limit and the girls are arrested and taken to jail. Hungover and clad only in bikinis, the girls appear before a judge but are bailed out unexpectedly by Alien (James Franco), an infamous local thug who takes them under his wing and leads them on the wildest Spring Break trip in history. Rough on the outside but with a soft spot inside, Alien wins over the hearts of the young Spring Breakers, and leads them on a Spring Break they never could have imagined.”

Does that sound like enough fun for you? If so, the film hits selected theaters on March 22, 2013.
