‘BioShock Infinite’ PC Details Are Promising

Last month, PC gamers let out a sigh of relief as Irrational Games confirmed that BioShock Infinite will not be using Games for Windows Live nor the dreaded SecuROM DRM. As it turns out, that wasn’t the only good news the developer had up its sleeve.

Speaking with IGN, Chris Kline, technical director at Irrational, confirmed that the PC version of BioShock Infinite is being developed on equal footing with consoles by a dedicated “strike team” composed of programmers, designers, UI specialists, and artists.

Thanks to having a team dedicated to fleshing out the PC version of BioShock Infinite, the developer was able to get quite a lot done. If you’ve got the rig to run it, Kline says that you can expect higher resolution textures, improved lighting, and a larger draw distance.

If you have a DirectX 11 card, you can expect to see even more options.

“Though you only need DX10 hardware to play, if you have DX11 hardware you’ll be able to turn on high-end PC-only features like Contact Hardening Shadows, High Definition Ambient Occlusion, and Diffusion Depth of Field,” Kline explained.

“In particular, the HDAO and DDoF will take full advantage of the DX11 Compute Shader capability in high-end hardware, and our FXAA implementation is optimized for Shader Model 5.”

If you’re worried that your PC won’t be able to handle all of these new features, Irrational released the minimum and recommended system requirements for BioShock Infinite to give you a general idea.
