‘MechWarrior Online’ Update Adds New Mech Ahead Of Double XP Weekend

Piranha Games released a new content update for MechWarrior Online update on Tuesday, which added in a new light mech, the Spider, along with a handful of other goodies — and there’s more still coming up next week.

First, the mech. If you’re afraid of spiders, the name might lead you to believe that MechWarrior Online‘s latest mech is terrifying. In a way, it is. All three variants of the Spider are lightning fast, and each one comes equipped with jump jets to boot.

To go along with the mech, Piranha also added in a new Woodlands camo pattern for you to pimp out your mech of choice.

Also included in the patch are two new pilot modules. The first, Decay Target, allows you to keep lock on a target for an additional 1.5 seconds after they’ve gone into cover, while the other, Sensor Range, provides a boost to, well, you get it.

If you’re a fan of light mechs, Piranha has yet another treat in store for you next week. On January 22, MechWarrior Online will be getting a new Hero mech called the Death Knell, which is based on the Commando chassis.

Lastly, MechWarrior Online will be holding its first double XP weekend starting Friday, January 18 at 10 a.m. Pacific.

“After a much-needed break over the holidays, we’re raring to go with exciting 2013 content updates,” said Bryan Ekman, creative director at Piranha Games. “The addition of community-focused features such as the Double XP event, new Mechs and performance tweaks let’s us kickoff the New Year in a big way. This is just the beginning of a huge year for MechWarrior fans.”
