Rob Ryan To Rams As Defensive Coordinator [Report]

Rob Ryan to the Rams.

St. Louis has reportedly reached a deal — or is close to a deal — with Rob Ryan to become the team’s new defensive coordinator. Ryan was fired by the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday. Ryan claimed it would only take him about five minutes to get a new job in the NFL; it took a little longer but the decision, if official, comes pretty fast.

New York Post reporter Brian Costello first reported the apparent Rex Ryan Rams hiring on Twitter but later tweeted that is is not yet a done deal. If Rob Ryan does take the Rams deal, this turn of events means that there will be no family reunion on the New York Jets coached by twin brother Rex Ryan. The Jets also have an opening for a defensive coordinator after the contract of incumbent Mike Pettine expired. If Rob Ryan takes the St. Louis job under Jeff Fisher, he will join former Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer on the Rams.

According The Bleacher Report, the Rob Ryan Rams deal is not yet finalized but he is likely to end up in St. Louis.

The Rams did not have an official defensive coordinator last season after the NFL suspended Gregg Williams. Rob Ryan and Fisher do have a family connection of a sort, however, according to NBC Sports Pro Football Talk:

“Now there is a defensive coordinator in Ryan, who has never worked with Fisher before but does have similar defensive philosophies: Fisher is a disciple of Rob’s father, Buddy Ryan, having played for him with the Bears and later coached under him with the Eagles. Now there’s apparently going to be a new Fisher-Ryan connection in St. Louis.”

Do you think Rob Ryan is a good fit for the St. Louis Rams?
