David Letterman Apologizes For Affair: Not For Palin Joke

David Letterman recently sat down with Oprah for a televised chat, except this time he wasn’t the host. He has been known for his cutting humor especially about presidential personalities and some celebrities, and when the two are the same, his sense of humor gets the best of him. However, cheating on his wife was something he took much more seriously.

According to FOX News, Letterman apologized profusely for the pain he had caused his wife after an affair with a young member of his staff, but the remorse didn’t extend to his awkward sex joke about 14-year-old Willow Palin.

Letterman was unsure his wife would stay with him when news emerged in 2009 about blackmail over an extramarital affair. He and his wife, Regina Lasko, had been married only six months at the time and shared a son. He told Oprah:

“I have no one to blame but myself … I’m still trying to fix it.”

Letterman admitted to going through deep depression, says the Examiner.

But Letterman admitted the only reason he apologized to Sarah Palin for making a sex joke on “Late Night” about Willow was so that he could continue to make jokes about the former Vice Presidential candidate.

Letterman added:

“I felt like Sarah Palin was somebody I wanted to be able to continue to make fun of, and I felt like if I don’t apologize … I will not be able to go forward [with that].”

Letterman did claim genuine remorse for any pain and embarrassment he may have caused the young teen, explaining he thought he was making a sex joke about about the older sister Bristol.

Letterman realizes his mistake and realizes the awkward stupidity of it. His wife, however, remains the subject of his true remorse.
