Toldo The Loyal Cat Brings Daily Gifts To Owner’s Grave

Toldo the cat is a loving creature that has gone to astounding lengths to prove his loyalty – he has been bringing daily gifts to the grave of his owner for over a year.

Proving the capacity for an animal’s love and dedication to its human companion is three-year-old Toldo, a grey and white tomcat from the town of Montagnana in northern Italy. Iozzelli Renzo, the loyal kitty’s owner, passed away on September 22, 2011 at the age of 71 but that has not stopped Toldo from visiting him.

An article by The Huffington Post writes that the cat makes his way to Renzo’s graveside each day, bringing with him small presents to place by his owner’s resting place.

The gifts may be considered small but the sentiment is heartrendingly beautiful. Leaving small tokens such as leaves, twigs, plastic cups, paper towels, or sticks upon his owner’s grave is surely the kitty’s way of showing affection for his human, even in death.

Residents of Montagnana, located close to Venice, are becoming accustomed to the familiar sight of Toldo making his way through the cemetery each day. Renzo’s widow Ava spoke about the kitty’s unusually loyal habits to members of the foreign press:

“He brings little twigs, leaves, toothpicks, plastic cups. A bit of everything really. Sometimes he comes with me and sometimes he goes on his own. The whole town knows about him now!”

According to IOL News, Toldo’s routine began with the sweet feline following Renzo’s funeral procession at the time of his burial and the cat has continued to visit the cemetery every day since. While there have been several reported cases of dogs behaving in this manner after losing their human owners, it is a bit more unusual to find such stories involving cats.

Ava says Toldo had a special place in his heart for her late husband:

“He loved my husband. It was something else! Now it’s just me, my daughter and my son-in-law and he’s very affectionate with us too.”
