Disgraced Louisiana Governor Marries Jailbait Girlfriend, Gets Reality TV Show

A disgraced former Louisiana Governor recently got out of jail and married his prison pen pal, who is 51-years his junior. Because this is America, that is exactly the kind of recipe that serves up a juicy reality TV show, which is exactly what the people at A&E thought.

Edwin Edwards has led a long, “colorful” life thus far. At 85-years-old, Edwards has served four times as Louisiana’s governor over the course of three decades, and served a total of eight years in federal prison for crimes committed while he was in office. In 2001, Edwards was convicted on bribery and extortion charges. In prison, he fell in love with his pen pal, Trina, who is now his 34-year-old wife, having married Edwards after his release last year.

But you don’t have to take my word for all of this. You can just watch the show when it hits A&E.

EW reports that A&E will debut The Governor’s Wife, in late February, which will focus on Edwards and his new wife. The show will also chronicle Edwin’s daughters (62-year-old Anna, and 60-year-old Victoria) and Trina’s sons (15-year-old Logan and 13-year-old Trevor) and all the hijinks the new family gets into together.

Here’s an official description of The Governor’s Wife:

“The series follows Trina as she attempts to fit into the former governor’s upscale world and busy social life while trying to get along with daughters twice her age and corral her teenage sons. Between school projects, running for president of the Homeowner’s Association, fending off skeptics who think she’s a gold digger, and thoughts of adding a baby of their own to the mix, the Edwards clan truly represent a new take on the modern family.”

MSN notes that the new show will add to Louisiana’s already-packed slate of reality TV shows. The state is a filming ground for more than seven shows on five different cable channels.

What do you think? Would you watch The Governor’s Wife, or does it sound trashy to you?
