Mel Gibson’s Dad Officially Divorced

It’s official, Hutton Gibson, the 94-year-old father of actor Mel Gibson, has finalized his divorce from his wife of 11-years, Teddy Joye Hicks.

The couple, who married in 2001, first separated in May 2012, with Hutton filing for divorce a month later. At the time, TMZ reported Mel Gibson believed his stepmother was trying to cut off his father’s medication “to accelerate his death.”

Teddy responded to Mel’s accusations with a court filing to obtain a restraining order against the star. Ms. Joye claimed the Braveheart actor spit in her face and exploded in anger on her several times.

She also accused Mel of sabotaging her marriage.

As for details of the divorce settlement, court documents obtained by TMZ show Gibson’s dad walks away from the marriage with a paltry $23,000, and half of the former couple’s community property, which is reportedly worth $22,000.

Teddy Joye, on the other hand, will pocket $640,000 in liquid assets and will hold on to the pair’s Lincoln Town Car.

Hutton had no kids with Teddy, but had 11 kids with his first wife, Anne, who is deceased. He has more than 50 grandchildren.

Aside from being the father of actor Mel Gibson, Hutton is also known for his controversial views on the Holocaust and for being a proponent of several conspiracy theories.

In a 2003 interview with the New York Times, Hutton rejected that Al Qaeda hijackers had anything to do with the September 11, 2001 attacks. Instead, he suggested the attacks were perpetrated by remote control.

Gibson was further quoted as saying the Second Vatican Council was “a Masonic plot backed by the Jews”
