Hommocks Middle School On Lockdown After Man With Gun Tried To Enter Building

Mamaroneck, NY – A New York City area middle school is on lockdown after a man with a gun attempted to enter the school. A man showed up at the facility and tried to get inside but reportedly left without incident. The unknown man reportedly tried to gain access to Hommocks Middle School through a locked side entrance. He then went to the main entrance and was stopped.

When a Hommocks Middle School staff member asked the man why he was on the campus grounds, the employee noticed the man was carrying a gun, according to NBC New York. The individual allegedly stated that he had a weapon because he works as a security guard. The unknown man also stated that he was trying to retrieve clothing he left in the pool area over the weekend, according to Mamaroneck Police reports.

Lt. Robert Koziak noted that the man was described as “pleasant” and left when he was not permitted to enter the school. As a precaution, police officers were dispatched to all four schools in the area. Parents were asked not to come and pick their children up early from school because of the incident.

Parents of Hommocks Middle School students were notified about the incident and told that the school remained secured, Fox News notes. All afternoon and evening activities at the New York City area middle school have been cancelled. School officials placed the facility in lockdown as a precaution.

Mamaroneck police officers are looking for the man who appeared on the Hommocks Middle School campus with a gun in order to speak with him about the incident. The man is nearly 6-feet tall, speaks with an Irish accent, and was wearing a black North Face jacket.
