‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Gets A Batch Of New Images [Photos]

For many people, director J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness is the movie to catch in 2013. To help get other folks excited about the film, a new batch of images have been released online.

As far as pre-release movie images go, the collection embedded below is fairly exciting. Instead of showcasing actors simply standing around or doing things out of completely context, Paramount Pictures has opted for something a bit more interesting.

Most of the main characters from Star Trek Into Darkness are present and accounted for including stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana. Shaun of the Dead alum Simon Pegg even makes an appearance in the new images. Unfortunately for Karl Urban fans, Bones doesn’t appear anywhere in the batch.

The film’s plot has been described as follows:

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

Although the film’s release date is still a ways off — the picture doesn’t open until May — Paramount has spared no expense getting the promotional ball rolling. The first trailer for the film, a clip which infuriated those looking for information regarding Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, was released just last month. Chances are more trailers, images, and TV spots will be released before all is said and done.

The newest collection of images have been gathered below.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness will set a course for theaters on May 17, 2013.
