Fantasia: ‘I Support The Gay Community’ [Photos]

American Idol winner Fantasia caused some controversy for some seemingly anti-gay comments she made on Instagram Sunday night.

The singer posted:

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!” — Fantasia.”

The post has since been removed, but that didn’t stop fans and bloggers from slamming Fantasia as a homophobe. It also didn’t stop people from pointing out her own flaws including getting pregnant by a married man.

One Instagrammer wrote, “Sleeping w/ a married man is ok but two men being married isn’t? … Oh @TasiasWord.”

Another person wrote, “I know you can’t read the Bible for yourself but God aint tell you to f*** a married man to get that latest welfare dependent.”

And yet another wrote, “This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and wipes her mouth says, ‘I have done no wrong-Proverbs 30:20.”

After the post was taken down, Fantasia’s rep issued a statement:

“Comments made by Ms. Barrino through her Intragram account were recently taken far out of context, and the purpose of this release is to set the record straight. Ms. Barrino is not now, nor has she ever been an opponent of the LGBT community. She has supported and performed at numerous events that are sponsored by the LGBT community. Whether it’s through a live performance or placement on social media, Ms. Barrino uses every opportunity to reach out and connect with her fans, all of her fans.”

The Grammy winner addressed the situation using the same medium that got her into hot water in the first place. Titled “Sometimes you have to lose to win again” — taken from the lyrics of her new song, “Lose to Win” — Fantasia posted the following image:

Still, some didn’t accept Fantasia’s post. One person wrote, “U took it down, couldn’t take the heat/ backlash? If u felt the way u said u did about ppl judging u, why take it down? If u said it, own it! Not everybody gonna understand things get taken outa contest every day.”

Another wrote, “It’s the judgement part people take issue with especially with your life not being the set example of a righteous woman. You could have said ‘men are killing babies’ or anything but to bring up homosexuals, you know damn well you think it’s wrong and now trying to backtrack.”

Others defended Fantasia, saying that everyone makes mistakes and that her real fans would still support her.
