‘This Is Us’ Star Alexandra Breckenridge Opens Up About Pregnancy, Admits She Was Worried About Role As Sophie

Alexandra Breckenridge plays Sophie on NBC’s This Is Us, and she quickly won over viewers when she popped up as the surprise ex-wife of Justin Hartley’s Kevin Pearson during the debut season. Breckenridge became a regular cast member for Season 2, and just ahead of the new episodes kicking into gear, she shared pregnancy news with fans. This is a joyous time for her family, but the actress now admits that she was nervous about how her pregnancy might impact her future with the hit series.

Viewers are used to twists, turns, and shocks when it comes to This Is Us, as spoilers detailing big plot developments are rarely leaked. It definitely rocked fans when they learned that Kevin had been married before to his childhood sweetheart. Kevin and Sophie have now reunited, but everybody has to wait and see what the future holds for them.

When actress Alexandra Breckenridge revealed that she was pregnant, This Is Us fans wondered if Kevin would be facing a difficult decision regarding pursuing his Hollywood movie dreams as his love Sophie experienced a surprise pregnancy. However, the series isn’t writing in the pregnancy. Breckenridge admits to Us Weekly that she was actually very scared to tell show creator Dan Fogelman about the baby out of concern that it could affect her future with the hit show.

Luckily, Fogelman embraced the news and was quick to congratulate Breckenridge on the pregnancy, she says. Alexandra notes that co-star Justin Hartley has been very sweet and supportive, and the This Is Us actress will welcome her baby girl in about a month. Viewers may manage to spot a few glimpses of a baby bump as Season 2 continues, but Breckenridge says she’s done her best to make it easy for production to hide her pregnancy.

Alexandra has shared a few baby bump updates here and there on Instagram, and the This Is Us page has posted some fun photos throughout the pregnancy as well. The countdown is on for Breckenridge and her family, and fans are excited to see her welcome her baby girl in a few more weeks.

What does the future hold for Kevin and Sophie? Alexandra says she thinks the two characters have an unbreakable bond and that things will eventually work out for them to live happily ever after together. TV Guide notes that during the next episode, Kevin will visit Sophie in New York, and This Is Us spoilers tease that there is plenty more on the way for these two.
