‘American Idol’ Premiere Date For ABC Revival Has Been Announced

In case you hadn’t heard, American Idol is being revived and revamped by ABC. The premiere date for the upcoming season of the singing competition has been revealed. In the meantime, American Idol auditions have been going on since August as they prepare for a huge return to TV.

The premiere date was confirmed by Ryan Seacrest, who will be hosting American Idol again when the show returns to TV via another network. According to E! News, Seacrest spilled the beans on Live! with Kelly and Ryan on Monday. After plenty of rumors and speculation, it is now confirmed that American Idol will debut on ABC on March 11.

The American Idol premiere episode will be two hours long. It’s already known that Ryan Seacrest will be returning. He was one of the original hosts of the show when it premiered back in 2002. In addition to Ryan Seacrest’s return, there will be some huge stars sitting at the judge’s table. Katy Perry was first to sign on as an AI judge. She was soon followed by country star Luke Bryan and icon Lionel Richie.

Now that American Idol is making a comeback on ABC rather than FOX, where the series used to be housed, they have adopted the hashtag #TheNextIdol. While American Idol auditions were held nationwide with 23 stops across the country, fans were also allowed to send in their auditions via social media using that hashtag.

The return of American Idol on ABC comes nearly two years after the singing competition signed off on Fox in April 2016. The announcement that the show would be coming back on a different network was made back in May 2017.

Many fans of the show have wondered how the revived American Idol will compare to the older version that was once a FOX network staple. It’s worth noting that Freemantle Media still owns rights to the show so there is a great chance that the familiar theme music and logos will stay exactly the same.

American Idol is headed back to television via ABC on March 11 at 8/7 central. Be sure to mark your calendars and set your DVR.
