Queen Elizabeth is getting ready to celebrate her 70th wedding anniversary, but the headlines are currently centered around former Peep Show actress, Olivia Colman, portraying Queen Elizabeth in the new Season 3 episodes of The Crown on Netflix.
Long before her role as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown, Olivia Colman first played Sophie Chapman in Peep Show in 2003, and was in an active role throughout all nine seasons until the show ended with a finale in 2015.
However, Olivia Colman is a prolific actress worthy of playing a role like Queen Elizabeth in Season 3 of The Crown, and has a long list of experience outside of comedies like Peep Show, according to IMDb.
For example, outside of the upcoming role as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown, Olivia Colman is familiar to American audiences through her recent role as the godmother in Fleabag.
Despite this, Olivia Colman is dominant in television in the U.K. outside of Peep Show, and joked about this fact while playing herself in a 2013 production of The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.
In fact, Olivia Colman's lines in the reboot revolved around the fact that she was not invited to the reboot, and it was surprising since Colman is almost as recognizable to people in the U.K. as Queen Elizabeth.
As for her new role as Queen Elizabeth, BBC recently reported that Olivia Colman was nervous about her skills for Season 3 of The Crown because Claire Foy's performance in the first two seasons was extraordinary.
As for Queen Elizabeth, she is alleged to be a viewer of The Crown Season 1 starring Claire Foy, as previously reported by the Inquisitr.
While Claire Foy played Queen Elizabeth II during her younger years, and Olivia Colman will be covering the later part of her youth, future seasons of The Crown could eventually portray Queen Elizabeth's life as a woman living out her retirement.
Naturally, true Queen Elizabeth fans know the last 10 years of her life have been about having fun and being close with the ones she loves.
As reported by the Inquisitr around her 91st birthday in April, Queen Elizabeth still spends a lot of time at the racetrack to watch her personally-selected champion thoroughbred horses race.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are also getting ready to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on November 20, according to Daily Mail.
One part of Queen Elizabeth's life that Claire Foy and Olivia Colman might be sad to miss out on is the monarch's recent focus on wine. According to CBS News, Queen Elizabeth is opening her private property to the sparkling wine industry, and is leasing seven acres of Windsor Great Park for this purpose.
The Crown Season 3 with Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II will premiere on Netflix, according to Digital Spy, but no official release date for American audiences has been announced.
No release date for Season 3 is not surprising since The Crown Season 2 will not debut until December 8, according to USA Today. This could means fans of The Crown are likely to see Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II around the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019.
