Meghan Markle ‘Edgier’ Than Kate Middleton, But Meghan’s Wedding Dress Will Have ‘Grace And Grandeur’

Meghan Markle is learning to be a princess, and along with learning how to address Prince Harry’s grandmother, and how to properly curtsy to different members of the royal family, her lessons include royal style tips. One top wedding dress designer said that Meghan Markle is much “edgier” than Kate Middleton, but even Kate had her moments before the spotlight blazed on her as the future Duchess of Cambridge. Both Kate and Meghan loved to rock short skirts and low-cut necklines, and they also both became more conservative after getting serious with Prince William and Prince Harry.

The Daily Star wrote that although Kate Middleton, 35, and Meghan Markle, 36, are nearly the same age, powerhouse wedding dress designer Ben de Lisi thinks Markle has a younger look and a flare for youthful, edgy style. Kate Middleton used to have more of that edginess, but as wife to Prince William and future queen, Middleton has to have a more mature, conservative look.

If Meghan Markle makes the transition from glamorous Suits actress to marrying Prince Harry, she will also have to rein in some of her racier preferences. She’s already made some adjustments to her wardrobe and hasn’t been spotted in above-the-knee length dresses or bright nail polish for several months. Reportedly, Queen Elizabeth frowns on visible knees and red nails.

De Lisi said that Kate Middleton pulls off her safer style beautifully, managing to always keep that glamorous style and class that led to the infamous “Kate effect.” According to an article in the International Business Times, Meghan Markle is definitely moving in a safer style direction more like Middleton’s, with recent pics showing her choices as classic chic, avoiding short-lived trends and fads.

Meghan does love to make a statement when she goes out, and often coordinates something simple like a white shirt and flats with a “beautiful statement bag.”

When it comes to the wedding dress, the design will have to make a different kind of statement. Meghan Markle would become Princess Henry of Wales and, depending on the queen’s final decision, the Duchess of Sussex when she marries Prince Harry. That’s a lot of statement to make!

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress will have to communicate the message that the Suits star is gone, and there’s a new princess at the palace. De Lisi envisioned a dress that will “ooze grace and grandeur” with feminine flounces at the end of bell-shaped sleeves. The neckline of the dream dress is beaded and embroidered with seed pearls to give it a subtle antique look, and in the fantasy image, the future princess trails an elegant georgette train as she walks up the aisle to say yes to Harry.

The iconic wedding dress designer believes that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will announce their engagement this month. One reason is that Markle’s contract with Suits completes in November so that she is free to move to Kensington Palace and enjoy the protection of royal security. Another reason is super romantic: Kate Middleton and Prince William announced their engagement in November of 2010.
