‘Gold Rush’ Update: Todd Hoffman And His Crew Are Up A Creek Without Water With Latest Gold Mining Crisis

Todd Hoffman started Gold Rush Season 8 with a six-figure bet and three wash plants. Going into the fourth episode, the lack of water could keep the Hoffman crew from reaching their unprecedented $6 million, 5,000-ounce goal. Could the latest Hoffman crew crisis mean that Parker Schnabel is closer to winning the bet?

The season has been starting out pretty great for the Hoffman crew. Todd and his gold mining buddies have been going “full speed ahead,” and are happy with their 482 ounces of Colorado gold, one-tenth of their ambitious 5,000-ounce, $6 million dollar goal.

Todd is chewing up land, getting closer to more gold. This year, the Hoffman crew is prepared to sluice with three washplants.

Todd is running the “ugly,” but “reliable” Double Trouble, Hunter, Todd’s son, is running Monster Red and making his dad real proud. However, only two washplants are actually running as Rusty Red is “at a standstill” and could hold back the team.

Todd needs Freddie Dodge “to get in the game,” and get the third washplant working, in order to find enough gold in the Colorado Rockies.

Already four weeks into mining, Freddy Dodge “has yet to run a yard of dirt.” This is quite a disaster!

Rusty Red has cost somewhere between $150,000 and $175,000, out of Freddy’s own pocket, to get the washplant back in working order. This includes “new conveyers, new screen” and new tools to get it up and running properly. Yet, all of the updates mean nothing without water to make the washplant run.

If the washplant is repaired and upgraded, then why isn’t it working? Turns out, Freddy and the Hoffman crew were “shut down” by the state. Colorado officials told Freddy that the water source was outside of their permit. This is a disaster, as they have no water to sluice with!

Now Freddy Dodge has to break some pretty bad news to Todd Hoffman, but he does offer a viable solution. He suggests going back to last year’s cut, making it “water-tight,” and filling it with water. But this solution comes with a hefty price tag of $30,000 to $50,000 dollars.

Todd shakes his head in pain, but Freddy doesn’t think they will have a chance at 5,000 ounces and $6 million dollars without the use of Rusty Red. However, they will need a week to make it happen and get water for Rusty Red.

Freddy has been the voice of reason. Will he manage to convince Todd that this will work, and the third washplant will lead the crew to success? Do you think that Todd Hoffman and his crew will get their water, let alone 5,000 ounces of gold? Do you miss Dave Turin?
