WWE Rumors: Leaked Poster Spoils Possible Huge Return For Survivor Series

Last week, there were some big rumors about the upcoming Brock Lesnar vs. Jinder Mahal match at the WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view. The rumors indicated that Vince McMahon wants a special guest referee in the match, someone that can help benefit Mahal and put more eyes on him as his title reign continues. Now, a leaked poster may have spoiled the surprise of which returning WWE superstar will referee the match.

The website, 411mania reported on Thursday that the leaked WWE Survivor Series poster has Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal at the top with John Cena between the two wearing a referee shirt. This would be an interesting move and would squash the original WWE rumors that Stone Cold Steve Austin or Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson could take the role.

It does make a little more sense for the WWE. The Rock is always willing to come into work when he can, but he costs a lot to work events; especially something as big as Survivor Series. Stone Cold Steve Austin still has a relationship with the WWE, but his career as a wrestler is over, and the payoff is not there.

However, John Cena is a current WWE superstar, even though he is often away shooting another movie; this time the Transformers spin-off movie, Bumblebee. He said that he would keep wrestling until he stops putting on quality matches but is rumored to be out of in-ring action until 2018.

The 2017 Survivor Series

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea of putting someone like John Cena into the role as the special guest referee is so that the WWE can build to a Jinder Mahal vs. John Cena match for the WWE world title at WrestleMania 34.

There are heavy rumors that the WWE will keep the world title on Jinder Mahal until WrestleMania 34, regardless of fan backlash on his match and promo quality, possibly hoping that the hatred of Jinder as champion will help propel John Cena into the match as a monster face as he breaks “Nature Boy” Ric Flair’s record for world title reigns.

The WWE has not confirmed this leaked Survivor Series poster, and there is a chance it could end up a fake. However, if the poster is legitimate, fans will see John Cena back in the WWE just in time for the last major dual-branded WWE pay-per-view of the year.
