‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Will Bring Back One Major Fan Favorite Character [Spoilers]

Season 2 of Stranger Things is finally here and the Duffer brothers are already making promises about next year. While the sophomore season gave us a lot of interesting developments, one of the big surprises was the introduction of Lucas Sinclair’s (Caleb McLaughlin) little sister Erica (Priah Ferguson). Will Ferguson see more screen time in Season 3?

According to SlashFilm, Ferguson originally had a small part in Season 2 but that changed when she stepped in front of the cameras. Matt Duffer admitted that he and Ross Duffer fell in love with Ferguson, whom they discovered in Atlanta, and decided to give her more scenes than they originally intended. Matt later added that we will see more of Ferguson in Season 3, which is definitely exciting news.

Erica isn’t the only character returning next season. Stranger Things 2 revealed that Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) – Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) “Papa” – is still alive. We learned of Brenner’s fate when Eleven tracked down her laboratory sister, Kali (Linnea Berthelsen), in Chicago. One of Brenner’s former goons, played by Pruitt Taylor Vince, told the kids that Brenner wasn’t dead. We don’t know too many details about how Brenner survived his Season 1 encounter with the Demogorgon, but executive producer Shawn Levy revealed that he will be back for Season 3.

In addition to returning characters, W Magazine reports that Season 3 will feature a time jump for the kids. Matt Duffer recently talked about how the kids are only getting older and admitted that the show will keep pace with normal time. That means that Season 3 will be set a year after the events of Season 2, which will definitely have significant impact on several storylines.

The time jump will particularly affect Nancy Wheeler, Jonathan Byers and Steve Harrington. Nancy and Jonathan will be heading into their senior year in high school while Steve will either enroll in college or work for his dad in Hawkins. Given Steve’s significance and character development over the first two seasons, it’s likely that he’ll be sticking around Hawkins for at least one more season.

Season 3 of Stranger Things is expected to premiere next fall.
