Reason Why Stepahanie McMahon Returned On ‘Monday Night Raw’ Revealed

Stephanie McMahon, the commissioner of Monday Night Raw, made her triumphant return to the red brand this week to confront Kurt Angle. It was McMahon’s first appearance on Monday Night Raw since WrestleMania 33. The latest backstage news has revealed the real reason why Stephanie returned last Monday.

As recapped by WWE.com, Stephanie McMahon surprised the WWE Universe by confronting Monday Night Raw general manager Kurt Angle. McMahon praised Angle for managing Monday Night Raw in her absence, but she did not like that they got under siege by Shane McMahon and the SmackDown Live roster last week.

McMahon even added a stipulation to the Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown match at Survivor Series. Stephanie named Angle as the team captain of the red brand and if they lose at Survivor Series, he will be fired as the general manager of Monday Night Raw. As of this writing, Angle has named Braun Strowman as part of his team with Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, and Samoa Joe possibly joining them.

On the other hand, Shane McMahon has announced that he is going to be the team captain of SmackDown Live. Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Bobby Roode have already qualified with A.J. Styles as the rumored fifth member.

According to Cageside Seats, the return of Stephanie McMahon was not just for the announcement of the stipulation, but a potential WrestleMania 34 program between Kurt Angle and Triple H. The report noted that one of the planned matches for next year’s WrestleMania is Kurt Angle vs. Triple H with the build-up to the match started on Monday.

Many fans were surprised to see Angle return to the ring last month at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, and he did an impressive job for a 48-year-old with five neck surgeries. Angle is now scheduled to work at Survivor Series and he is expected to have a match with Triple H.

Meanwhile, “The Game” has not appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania 34 when he lost to Seth Rollins. He has made several appearances on NXT, but it’s not part of the main roster. Triple H is beloved in developmental as a boss while his authority character on Monday Night Raw is hated by many.

It should be noted that these are still purely speculative at the moment and the WWE tends to change their plans on a regular basis. Kurt Angle vs. Triple H with Stephanie McMahon at ringside is not a dream match. However, the history between the three superstars is rich and they could create a great feeling of nostalgia at WrestleMania 34.
