‘Kevin Can Wait’ Star Leah Remini Talks Job Security In Hollywood

Leah Remini and her Kevin Can Wait co-star Kevin James are turning the tables on one another. In a new interview on CBS This Morning’s “Something in Common” series, Remini, who plays Kevin James’ leading lady on the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait, was interviewed by her longtime TV co-star. Remini told James she feels there are no guarantees in showbiz and that no one in the business can ever feel like they’ve really “made it.”

When asked by Kevin James if she thinks she has made it (she has—in addition to her starring role on Kevin Can Wait, Remini co-starred with James for nine seasons on The King of Queens and she hosts the Emmy-winning docu-series Scientology and the Aftermath), Leah Remini had a surprising answer.

“I don’t think anybody in this business ever thinks they really made it,” Leah said.

“And you have some success, you just don’t have job security. This is not a job for somebody to go, ‘I’ve made it.'”

Leah Remini’s comments about Hollywood job security come just a few months after she reunited with Kevin James on Kevin Can Wait for a two-part guest spot that turned into a permanent role. Erinn Hayes, who previously played Kevin James’ wife on the CBS sitcom, was let go from the show as the series went in a new creative direction.

It’s no secret that Leah Remini and Kevin James have great chemistry. Not only do they bounce jokes off of one another on Kevin Can Wait, but as can be seen in their CBS interview below, they’re pretty good at unscripted banter, too. When talking about Remini’s success, Kevin James even poked fun at her early beginnings in the business.

“You’ve done great … You were on Fired Up,” James joked. Remini’s co-star was referring to the short-lived NBC sitcom that she co-starred on with Sharon Lawrence in the late 1990s, just before James scooped her up for The King of Queens.

Leah Remini found out about job security the hard way when Fired Up was canceled after just 28 episodes in 1998, but she made up for it with a long run on The King of Queens. Ahead of Kevin Can Wait, Leah Remini’s last starring role on a sitcom was on ABC’s Family Tools.

Kevin Can Wait airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
