‘House of Cards’ Canceled: How Will Season 6 End Following Kevin Spacey’s Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Frank Underwood’s political career will soon be over. House of Cards Season 6 is set to be the series’ final season, the news of which comes on the heels of Kevin Spacey’s sexual misconduct allegations.

Netflix is currently working on House of Cards Season 6, but news of it being the final season or that filming has begun wasn’t reported until Monday. Sources who have knowledge on the series told CNN that the House of Cards production team was informed months before filming for Season 6 began that it will be the final season. A source for the news outlet also confirmed that Spacey’s sexual misconduct had nothing to do with the series’ cancellation. Still, this has raised some eyebrows because the cancellation announcement was made at such perfect timing.

Netflix and House of Cards production company Media Rights Capital have since addressed allegations about Spacey, stating that they were “deeply troubled” by the news. The streaming service also made it clear that the decision to end the series was not made in response to Spacey’s scandal.

While some people weren’t too thrilled about the cancellation of House of Cards, many see that it’s about time this series will take a bow.

As House of Cards, Netflix’s first-ever original series, comes to an end, fans wonder what Season 6 will be like and how it will close the chapters. It can be recalled that the Season 5 ended by giving fans questions to ponder on. Frank Underwood (Spacey) is out of the White House and with that, it looks like the final season will focus more on his estranged wife, Claire (Robin Wright), as the president. As co-showrunner Frank Pugliese explained to the Hollywood Reporter, Claire will become all the more ambitious.

“Now that she’s become more ambitious, or actually just more pronounced with her ambitions openly about what she wants, her complicity is going to be different than Francis’ complicity.”

As for Frank, he may be out of the White House but Pugliese teased that he won’t stop looking for power. House of Cards is a series that tells of the pursuit of power, but with Frank stepping down from the presidency, Season 6 will need to explore more on how he can find power outside of the White House.

It is speculated that House of Cards finale will shine the light even more on Claire, especially after Wright dished to THR that things will be “very interesting” for her character. Some believe that the series will still continue even without Spacey and his character and that Wright will take on the main lead.

House of Cards Season 6 is said to have thirteen episodes, which will debut sometime in 2018.
