Earlier this month, NCIS star Pauley Perrette, who plays goth forensic scientist Abby Sciuto in the well-loved CBS series, confirmed that she'll be leaving the show after Season 15. It remains to be seen how Abby will take her bow, but it looks like a fan may just have the idea.
On this week's episode of NCIS Season 15, Mark Harmon's Gibbs mentioned a friend who has struggled with alcoholism and that the friend is on his or her way to recovery. Although Gibbs did not specifically mention who that mysterious friend was, fans were betting he was talking about Abby, and that this could be the storyline for her inevitable exit.
Fans wondered if Gibbs was talking about Abby, considering that she has a family of alcoholics. They have reasons to believe that the NCIS team leader may indeed be talking about the quirky character. One fan of the series pointed out that in one of the episodes from earlier seasons, Gibbs offered Abby a drink and it seemed as if Gibbs knew then that she's having problems with alcohol. Also, if anyone may have missed the episode, a viewer was quick to point out that Abby did something weird with her lip when Gibbs mentioned about the recovering friend.Exit theories for Abby have been popping up and will continue to do so until fans know the answer. For now, no one knows how the Caf-Pow-loving character will say goodbye. In the history of NCIS, several core characters have taken their final bows in different ways.
Sasha Alexander's Caitlin Todd was killed off. Cote de Pablo's Ziva came in as Caitlin's replacement, but she resigned in Season 10 and spent her final days in Season 11. Michael Weatherly's Tony DiNozzo presumed that his love interest, Ziva, was dead, and he, too, left NCIS after Season 13.
Lauren Holly's Director Shepard and Jennifer Esposito's Quinn also made their exit, with the former getting killed in a shootout and the latter being called to attend to her sick mother.
As for Pauley Perrette's exit after Season 15, it remains a mystery. One thing is certain; the actress will have a "special send-off," according to NCIS showrunners, George Schenck and Frank Cardea, in their joint statement.
"From day one, she has brought incredible passion and specificity to the role. Abby is a character that inspires millions of fans around the world, and all of us at NCIS are appreciative of Pauley for portraying her."There are concerns that the funny and adorable Abby will be killed off, which is an awful way to be written out of a show. Fans can only hope that the producers will not have this storyline, especially since Abby is loved by millions of viewers.
