Lyft Is Partnering With ‘Stranger Things’ For Spooky ‘Strange Mode’ Ride Over Halloween, Free Waffle Included

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a part of Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things? Well, if you use the ride-sharing service Lyft, you may actually be able to experience it.

According to AdWeek, Stranger Things will continue to promote Season 2 of the show by offering Lyft riders in Los Angeles and Philadelphia a chance to ride in “strange mode,” which is said to be a creepily awesome experience. Users in the two cities will be able to select the spooky mode on their Lyft app this Halloween weekend on Friday, October, 27 and Saturday, October, 28. To make the mood even “spookier,” the setting will only be available from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on those days, just when the sun starts to set.

“We like to think of the car as our stage and that is just what we did in partnership with Netflix, by creating a spooky ride for Stranger Things 2,” the director of rider experience at Lyft said.

In the YouTube teaser from a real “strange mode” ride, fans can see exactly what they’re in for. The video starts with unsuspecting passengers entering their Lyft vehicle and heading to the destination that they entered in the app. But a few minutes into the ride, things begin to take an even stranger turn.

The driver’s navigation begins to flash in and out of service as the voice navigation falsely reports that the driver has arrived at his destination. After that, the driver says that he needs to pull over because he’s feeling lightheaded, and then things start to get even weirder.

The rest of the ride is officially creepy as the lights in the car begin to flash while seats in the car fling violently back and forth. When passengers look up, it appears that the imprint of a body has become embedded in the roof. Along with a few other surprises, the ride ends with the Stranger Things theme playing as people in hazmat suits come up to the car and offer riders a waffle.

Most YouTubers who watched the video of the ride preview only had good things to say. Many even compared it to Lyft’s competition, Uber, saying that this is one thing that Lyft has on the other ride-sharing giant.

“I freaking Love this!!!!!!!! Uber would never!”

If you are in the Philadelphia or Los Angeles area over the weekend, will you try and take a Lyft ride in “strange mode?”
