Illegal Immigrant Gets ‘Light’ 2-Year Sentence For Causing Car Crash That Took Three Lives

Courtney Hacking, a Texas woman who lost her husband and two children in a car crash last year, is unhappy with the two-year sentence given to the illegal immigrant from Mexico who caused the crash, FOX News reports. In a recent interview with Fox & Friends, Hacking said that the meager 2-year sentence the illegal immigrant received does not compensate her for the loss of her her 36-year-old husband Peter Hacking, and their two kids, 4-year-old Ellie and 22-month old son, Grayson.

Police arrested Mexican citizen Margarito Quintero Rosales in connection with the crash. At the time of his arrest, Quintero had no driver’s license or any identification papers with him. It was later established that he was an illegal immigrant.

According to WFAA 8 News, the crash happened after Quintero fell asleep at the wheel and swerved his vehicle into Hacking’s car that was coming the other way. Peter Hacking was driving back home after picking up the kids from their babysitter when the accident happened.

Following his arrest, Quintero pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide. On September 27 this year, he was sentenced to 2-years in prison by a Texas state court. This is the maximum possible sentence under Texas state law. Quintero has been in jail since the accident and has around 100 days left for his prison term to end. Interestingly, Quintero is also concurrently serving a two-year federal sentence for reentering the U.S. illegally after being deported once. Incidentally, Courtney’s husband, Peter, was a legal immigrant from England.

In her interview with Fox & Friends, Courtney made the following comment.

“People think his crime and his punishment seem to fit because he was an illegal immigrant. But to me being illegal in the country was a crime on its own so I don’t understand how he did get only two years. To me, I take it offensively. I take it personally.”

“The message needs to be put across to them that when you come to this country, you need to do it legally because when they come here, all they’re getting is…they’re committing crimes, they’re getting a slap on the wrist, and they’re going back to Mexico, or they’re going back to whatever country they came from.”

Following her husband’s death, Courtney is now looking after her other four children alone. She said she still misses Ellie and Grayson and see their faces every day from the moment she wakes up until she goes to bed.
