By End Of 2017, Over 5,000 U.S. McDonald’s Locations Will Deliver Right To Customers’ Doorsteps

Can you say, “I’m lovin’ it?” As restaurant deliveries are becoming more and more popular, fast-food giant McDonald’s is also getting in on the action by announcing that 5,000 of their United States locations will be equipped to deliver by the end of this year.

According to CNBC, McDonald’s already delivers to over 3,700 of their locations nationwide. That means that in just a few months, the fast-food chain plans to add over 1,300 more locations to their delivery arsenal.

Right now, McDonald’s is using third-party delivery services to get orders to customers. Chris Kempczinski, the president of McDonald’s USA, said that areas like New York, Boston, Miami, and Los Angeles have already seen a ton of success with the delivery service.

Currently, third-party apps like UberEats, Postmates, and DoorDash are already working hard to deliver Big Macs and other popular menu items to customers throughout the United States. CNBC reports that there is a spike in delivery orders in the evening or later at night. Some may argue that the 60 percent spike in orders late at night can be attributed to “late night snacks” after a night of drinking.

On average, the carrier stays true to the “fast food” aspect and delivers most orders in just under 30 minutes.

While McDonald’s delivery in the U.S. is relatively new, Asia and the Middle East have already seen much success using this model. In some cases, over 40 percent of sales from certain McDonald’s locations are from delivery alone. In 2016, the burger chain enjoyed a whopping $1 billion in sales from the delivery service.

The Chicago Tribune reports that over the third quarter, McDonalds’ earnings have seen growth thanks to $1 fountain drink deals and $2 McCafe menu items. The national McPick2 2-for-$5 deal has also seen great sales after a sluggish start at the begging of this year.

Bloomberg attributes the recent success of McDonalds’ sales to their CEO, Steve Easterbrook, who took over the position in 2015 after sales from the the burger chain had been declining. This year alone, shares for McDonald’s Corporation were already up 34 percent.
