WWE superstar Chris Jericho has become the master in recent years when it comes to working fans and it looks like he has done it again. This time, Jericho took aim at New Japan Professional Wrestling superstar Kenny Omega. When a fan mentioned that Omega was the best in the world, Jericho answered as only he could. In the process, Jericho received a response from Omega and then launched into an epic Twitter rant against fans defending the NJPW superstar as well.
Chris Jericho on Kenny Omega
This entire situation started on Friday night when an NJPW fan posted on Twitter that he just watched the third meeting between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada and said that Omega is now the “Best in the World.” He also tagged Chris Jericho, who uses that tagline for himself.
That actually brought a response from Jericho on Twitter that said that Kenny Omega “isn’t even the best in Winnipeg.” Y2J then added the hashtag “overrated,” which was a harsh slam to Omega as well. Of course, Chris Jericho is from Winnipeg, so this was a typical response from the WWE superstar.
Kenny Omega than responded back on Twitter on Saturday, saying “never meet your heroes” and then he called Jericho a “corporate stooge.” Jericho responded back on Sunday when he said that he isn’t a corporate stooge but is a six-time world champion who wrestled in main events in the “big leagues” for 17 years. He then told Omega to watch his mouth and called him a “kid.”
Fans went nuts on Twitter after this, many launching into a frenzy defending Kenny Omega while blasting Chris Jericho, claiming they lost respect for him. The funny thing is that Kenny Omega was on Jericho’s podcast and the two seem to be friends behind-the-scenes, making this look like the two are just having some fun.
Chris Jericho rants against indie fans
Of course, this is Chris Jericho, so it didn’t end there. After one too many fans started tearing into Chris on Twitter, he went on an epic Twitter rant, responding to a large number of them.
Chris Jericho then said that since he doesn’t live in Yokohama, New Japan is clearly an indie to him. Jericho said he did watch the Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada match and saw “4,000 people going nuts” and compared that to a Sunday afternoon show for the WWE.
Jericho then went on a blocking spree, although whether he was really blocking fans on Twitter or just being sarcastic isn’t known. He even blocked fans who were seemingly on his side in the entire debate.
Of course, there are also fans who think that this is all a work and that Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho are just playing around and possibly setting up a match between the two in the future. However, for now, fans can just enjoy the squabbling on Twitter between two of the more entertaining wrestling figures in the world.
