Shawn Michaels To Special Guest Referee NXT Championship Match

Shawn Michaels will be putting on the stripes as a special guest referee for the NXT Championship match during the Survivor Series weekend. On Friday, November 17, NXT will head to San Antonio for a live event. The main event will be NXT Champion Drew McIntyre defending his title against the Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole. Michaels has been promoting the event, especially since he will be heading back to his hometown to participate in the match.

Cole made his surprising debut at the conclusion of the TakeOver: Brooklyn III NXT Championship match between McIntyre and Bobby Roode. He was joined by former Ring of Honor stars Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly. All three attacked McIntyre, commencing a feud. Since then, McIntyre has been on a quest to gain revenge for the attack, and he is looking to accomplish this retribution come November 17. Michaels, though, always brings an element of surprise during his referee matches over the years.

While this is simply being promoted as a way to gain more ticket sales for the event right before the TakeOver: Houston/War Games special, Michaels is notorious for creating memorable moments as a referee, and it very well could happen during this match.

At TakeOver: War Games, McIntryre and Cole may have different opponents. Recently, with the help of assistant Zelina Vega, Andrade Cien Almas has been climbing his way up the NXT ladder after being stuck in the midcard for quite some time. At War Games, he could have an opportunity to win the NXT Championship by competing against McIntyre.

For Cole and his colleagues, it looks as if they will be competing in the first ever War Games match under a WWE umbrella. On the recent episode of NXT on the WWE Network, Sanity was attempting to gain their revenge on the Undisputed Era, as they were attacked by Fish and O’Reilly at TakeOver: Brooklyn III after winning the tag team championships from the Authors of Pain. The AOP returned and headed straight for Sanity, attacking them and laying them out. The Undisputed Era was able to weasel their way out of the ring. However, this looks to further develop the rumored match inside the cage between the three teams.
