Former ‘Shark Tank’ Entrepreneur Found Dead In Philadelphia River With Gunshot Wound To Head

There are plenty of questions remaining following the bizarre death of a former Shark Tank contestant. Last week, the body of 58-year-old Philip Reitnour was found in Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River under mysterious circumstances.

According to People, Philip’s body was pulled from the river after he had been reported missing. The body was found with a single gunshot wound to the head. When authorities arrived, they pronounced Reitnour dead at the scene. However, the circumstances as to how he died are still under investigation, meaning that police are still working to determine if this was a suicide or if there was foul play involved.

According to Fox News, Philip was going through some legal issues prior to his death. Not only was the 58-year-old over $3 million in debt but he was also being sued for unknown reasons.

During his appearance on the hit ABC show, Reitnour told investors that he had poured a ton of his own money into his app, EmergenSee, according to People. None of the sharks ended up giving Philip a deal after they were weary upon finding out that Philip had put so much of his own funds into the business.

According to the EmergenSee website, the application meant for smartphones offers 24/7 professional monitoring service. It states that the product is the only “professionally Monitored, Live Video and GPS Transmitting Personal Safety App” on the market. When a user of the app feels as though they may be in danger, they can simply click a button and it shares their location, audio, and video with their safety contacts in case help is needed.

When Reitnour was interviewed by the Philadelphia Business Journal after his appearance, he told the publication that he didn’t specifically appear on Shark Tank in order to get a deal with investors. Instead, he claimed that he wanted to be a part of the show to gain exposure for his company. Philip went on to say that the exposure from the show did work and the following day, his app got a ton of downloads.

People reports that Reitnour was the father of four. He lost his wife Kathleen to breast cancer in 2015 but was allegedly engaged at the time of his death.
