Trump Campaign Staffer, Nick Corvino, Shot 13 Times While Asleep

Nick Corvino, a GOP staffer who worked for the Trump presidential campaign, was found dead after being shot 13 times in his sleep at his home in Kissimmee, Florida. Responding sheriff’s deputies who were alerted by a burglar alarm arrested Corvino’s best friend and roommate on a charge of first-degree murder.

Corvino, 30, apparently was an employee at Disney and was previously President Trump’s 2016 central Florida political director. His resume also included interning for Senator Marco Rubio and working on the campaigns of several other Florida Republican politicians.

When cops responded to the scene on Tuesday morning, they allegedly encountered roommate Scott Waddell, 45, wearing a T-shirt and boxers with blood on his hands and feet, WKMG-TV reported. Waddell told officers he didn’t remember what happened before they showed up at the condo. He also told them he and Corvino were drinking a lot of beer and watching TV the night before in the living room.

Waddell allegedly described himself as mentally disabled and taking meds for that condition.

The deputies found Corvino’s body in a bed in a back bedroom, with gunshot wounds to his back, head, and legs, but there apparently was no evidence of a struggle.

The suspect allegedly owns two firearms, a shotgun and a 9 mm handgun, the latter which he keeps on the nightstand. Video inside the home allegedly shows Waddell getting out of bed in the morning and reaching in the direction of the nightstand.

“The actual shooting was not seen in the security video, but the firing of the 13 shots set off the system’s glass break alarm, which prompted deputies to respond to the unit,” News4Jax explained.

The suspect told investigators that he woke up scared for some reason, often has nightmares, and sometimes has “homicidal thoughts” about killing young men, but he has never acted upon those thoughts. Video apparently shows Waddell moving Corvino’s body to the side of the bed and staring at it for an extended period. Investigators described Waddell as cooperative and willing to talk. He also repeatedly asked them if Corvino was dead. The suspect is being held at the Osceola County Jail.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said that she was heartbroken over the fatal shooting of Nick Corvino, adding that he “was a great young man who had his entire life ahead of him,” the New York Post reported.
