WWE News: Jinder Mahal Claims He Can Beat CM Punk’s 434-Day Championship Reign

The current WWE Champion, Jinder Mahal, has enjoyed a lengthy title reign and thinks he’s capable of surpassing an all-time reign in the WWE record books. Mahal has been holding steady with his first-ever title reign, with many fans wondering when it might end. However, the “Modern Day Maharaja” has recently suggested that he can achieve a championship reign that goes beyond one of the longest title reigns in modern history. Here’s the latest on what Jinder Mahal had to say when asked about his current championship run and the possibility of beating the reign CM Punk had years ago.

On Saturday, All Wrestling News reported that Jinder Mahal was part of a recent interview. During that discussion, the topic of one of the all-time title reigns in recent memory was brought to his attention. CM Punk was a former WWE Champion, who held the belt for 434 days total. His reign spanned from November 20, 2011, through January 27, 2013. Punk eventually “met his match,” so to speak, when he dropped the championship to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at the 2013 Royal Rumble. With that said, Jinder Mahal thinks his current run is on a good enough pace to where he could possibly surpass the reign Punk had.

Jinder responded confidently when asked if he could move past CM Punk’s reign in the WWE history books.

“Absolutely think I can. Why not? I believe I haven’t even entered my prime yet. So, I’m 31 years old, I’m already WWE Champion for 140 something days at the moment. I’ve a lengthy title run ahead of me and many more title runs yet to come.”

Mahal won the WWE Championship from “The Viper” Randy Orton at WWE Backlash and hasn’t dropped the title belt since. During that time, he’s successfully retained in several matches involving former champion Randy Orton, as well as current challenger Shinsuke Nakamura. In many of those wins, he had the help of his outside henchmen, the Singh Brothers. While they played a part in his recent win at Hell in a Cell 2017, Jinder still managed to pick up a relatively clean win over Nakamura by pinfall to once again retain.

Mahal’s current reign is at 145 days and counting, with him likely to hold the title into the new year. There have been rumors of him possibly facing the WWE Universal Champion at Survivor Series 2017, but the title isn’t expected to be on the line for that match. That would mean Jinder will probably still have the title at the Royal Rumble and possibly into WrestleMania.

To surpass CM Punk’s record, Jinder Mahal needs to keep the WWE Championship through Monday, July 30, 2018. That’s several months after WrestleMania 34 and about three weeks ahead of SummerSlam 2018. However, fans have to think if Jinder is eventually going to drop the title, Mania would be the perfect time for someone else to go over with a huge win over the “Modern Day Maharaja.”

Wrestling fans, will Jinder Mahal eventually break CM Punk’s record, or is the title reign going to end well ahead of the 434-day mark?
