Several WWE Superstars Reportedly Want To Leave The Company, Follow Cody Rhodes’ Path

The WWE is the biggest wrestling company in the world, and they currently have the biggest roster in their history. Many wrestlers from many independent promotions around the world have dreams of making it in the WWE someday. However, some current WWE superstars reportedly want to get out of the company and follow the path of Cody Rhodes.

Joe Lanza of The Voices of Wrestling podcast (h/t Sportskeeda) recently revealed that several members of the WWE roster are interested in walking away from the company and ask for their release. Lanza did not name the WWE superstars who want to quit, but he pointed out that these superstars are talking to Cody Rhodes about making it on the independent circuit after leaving the WWE.

“He doesn’t have any plans on going back to the WWE anytime soon. There’s wrestlers in the WWE going to him, getting advice on their own exit plans from the company. I know this for a fact. I can’t give you the names, but there’s wrestlers who go to him for advice on how to leave the company.”

Sportskeeda noted that Lanza is a legitimate source of backstage information in the WWE. It’s not a surprise to know that some WWE superstars want to leave the company because they are not used right or not being used at all.

Cody Rhodes is a great example of a former WWE superstar that requested his release and made it big in the independent circuit. Of course, Cody is already a household name because he is the son of Dusty Rhodes, but the fact that he cannot use his last name meant that he had to work very hard in getting recognized.

The former WWE superstar was released from his contract on May 21, 2016. Cody went on to work for several independent promotions like Ring of Honor, Evolve, Pro Wrestling Guerilla, WhatCulture Pro Wrestling, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He currently holds the ROH World Championship and the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championships with members of the Bullet Club.

Meanwhile, one of the WWE superstars on his way out is Neville, who reportedly did not show up or walked out of Monday Night Raw last week. Neville was the talk of the WWE dirt sheets in the past week, and he was rumored to be done with the company. Initial reports noted that Neville was unhappy being booked to lose to Enzo Amore in a Lumberjack Match last week.

According to PWInsider (h/t Wrestling Inc.), Neville no-showed Raw last Monday, and he really requested his release from the WWE. The two-time WWE Cruiserweight champion reputedly wants to go back to the independent circuit and re-invent his character just like Drew McIntyre, who got re-signed by the WWE this year after getting released in 2014.

Neville’s unhappiness stemmed from getting cut from the WrestleMania 33 DVD because he would not receive any royalties. Nevertheless, it is interesting to see if Neville or any other WWE superstars will get released this year and make a bigger name on the independent circuit. Some of the misused WWE superstars today include Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, Dolph Ziggler, Rusev, The Ascension, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson.
