Sherin Mathews: Affidavit Says Missing Toddler Put Outside By Dad At 3 a.m., Punished For Not Drinking Milk

Early Saturday morning, an Amber Alert was issued for 3-year-old Sherin Mathews who went missing from behind her family’s home in Richardson, Texas. Her father, Wesley Mathews, was arrested later in the day after it was learned he put the girl outside at around 3 a.m. to punish her for not drinking her milk, according to an affidavit.

The arrest warrant affidavit says that Mathews took Sherin out of the house in the middle of the night and told her to stand close to a large tree located near the family’s backyard, according to CBS 19. He told authorities that when he went out to check on his daughter 15 minutes later, Sherin was nowhere to be found.

Furthermore, Mathews told police that the tree was close to an alley near the yard where coyotes had been spotted, according to ABC 7.

Mathews has been charged with child endangerment and his wife was questioned by police. According to Fox 4, all three vehicles owned by the family have been towed from the home.

Mathews bond was set at $250,000, according to CBS 19.

Fox 4 further reports that Sherin’s parents did not report her missing until 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Members of the Emmanuel Bible Chapel are aiding in the search for Sherin, having scoured a field and railroad tracks near the family’s home. An elder with the church, Jose Cherian, told Fox 4, Sherin is a “tiny baby” who is extremely “active,” adding she is “very smart.” He continued by stating he hopes and prays Sherin is safe and pleaded, “Somebody please bring back the baby, wherever she is.”

Fox 4 notes that in their quest to find Sherin, police have gone door-to-door to gather surveillance camera footage and talk to neighbors. Richardson Police Sgt. Kevin Perlich told the media outlet his officers are conducting interviews and re-interviews in order to “get some more details” from anyone who may have information about Sherin.

Sgt. Perlich told CBS 19 search dogs were also being used to “pick up any type of scent, or items of clothing, or anything…” that might give investigators some type of clue about where Sherin is.

The Richardson Police Department has stated that Sherin suffers from developmental issues and is limited regarding her verbal communication skills, reports KSAT 12.

Sherin was last seen October 7 wearing a pink top and black pajama bottoms. She is described as being a 3-year-old female who weighs around 22 pounds and is approximately 3-feet in height. Sherin has black hair and brown eyes.

Authorities note the Amber Alert issued for Sherin on Saturday is still in force.

The Richardson Police Department is asking anyone with information about Sherin or her whereabouts to call 972-744-4801.
